Hickory Barbecue Sauce

A rich and thick homemade sauce with a secret ingredient--brewed black tea.
Ingredients
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup prepared mustard
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1/4 cup liquid hickory smoke
- 1/4 cup onion powder
- 2 tbsp paprika
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp Tabasco chipotle sauce
- 1 tsp McCormick season all
- 1/2 tsp ascorbic acid
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup black tea, brewed and cooled

Method
In a large sauce pan, add all ingredients, except cornstarch and brewed tea. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 2 hours or until desired thickness, stirring constantly. When desired thickness, mix cornstarch and brewed tea and add to sauce pan and remove from heat. Mix to incorporate. Place back on heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until sauce is thick.
Notes: Ascorbic acid can be purchased in a wine or beer making supply store.
